Oregon News
We will put up occasional UFO news stories here. Check back every once in a while.
- See the profile that the Gresham Outlook published about your State Director, Tom Bowden earlier in 2007.
- See the profile that the (Portland) Oregonian published about your Assistant State Director, Keith Rowell, on October 25, 2007.
- Tom Bowden, State Director, and Keith Rowell, Assistant State Director, will be presenting a program called "It Started With a Bang: Oregon UFO History." It'll be sponsored by DI: GHOSTIES, a Southwestern Oregon Community College club. The program will be Friday, October 5, 2007, 6:00 to 10:00 PM at Southwestern Oregon Community College in Coos Bay, Oregon, at Stensland Hall, Room 201 (over the book store). From U.S. Hwy 101 (Bayshore Drive), turn west on Newmark Ave., then right on W. College Way at the entrance to SOCC and go to the stop sign, turn left and enter the big round parking area. Stensland Hall is just north of the public parking area. To get to Coos Bay, take Highway 38 from Cottage Grove, or Highway 126 from Eugene to Florence, then south on Highway 101 to North Bend and Coos Bay. Hope to see you there! Download our presentation.
- Mike Schultz, Portland's local ancient astronaut expert, presented material from his second DVD on the subject. At our March meeting, Mike covered material ranging from Angkor Wat, to Uxmal, to the Cheops pyramid, to the underwater structures off Yonaguni, Japan, to Machu Picchu, etc., and back to Angkor Wat, the biggest temple complex ever built according to Mike. Check out Mike's website and his DVDs. Oregon MUFON also likes Graham Handcock's presentation of the ancient civilization/astronaut material.
- McMenamins Pubs & Breweries will stage another UFO festival centered on the Hotel Oregon in downtown McMinnville, Oregon. Oregon MUFON will be there with a table filled with educational material along with information about MUFON. Temple University history professor David Jacobs and director of the International Center for Abduction Research will speak about how ufology has changed over the last 60 years. Also on tap will be Peter Robbins, most noted for his co-authorship (with participant Larry Warren) of a book about the Rendlesham Forest UFO landing incident (near NATO RAFB Bentwaters and Woodbridge). Peter Davenport, Director of the National UFO Reporting Center, will round out the speakers list. We hope to see you at the McMenamins 8th Annual UFO Festival on Friday and Saturday, May 18 and 19!
- During October 13, 14, and 15, 2006, at the Jantzen Beach SuperCenter, the Trails End Paranormal Society and other Northwest ghost hunting organizations are sponsoring the Rose City Paranormal Conference. Your Oregon MUFON State Director or Assistant State Director will speak at the conference about UFOs. While you are there, listen to the other speakers about ghost hunting, too. At the conference last year, your State Director and Assistant State Director met lots of fine folks and learned a lot about hauntings and ghosts around the Pacific Northwest. Like the people who run the UFO Festival in McMinnville, the Rose City Paranormal Conference people also know how to have fun along with presenting the serious side. The conference is being held in the Scream at the Beach Haunted House at the Jantzen Beach SuperCenter.
- Washington state has a New Age-oriented organization run by the amiable James Gilliland. Gilliland tells the story that a number of years ago he had an enlightenment experience that put him in touch with UFO-related intelligences. After this life changing event, he bought some rural land near Trout Lake, Washington, and set up his Sattva Sanctuary. He welcomes all sincere seekers after New Age and UFO intelligences-related knowledge. In August 2006, he is organizing a Science, Spirit, and World Tranformation Conference at his Sattva Sanctuary. (Oregon MUFON and MUFON do not endorse this approach to UFOs and UFO phenomena, but we do encourage people to seek out and critically evaluate the many approaches there are to UFOs and UFO information.)
- Mike Schultz talked and showed a DVD he has produced about his "ancient astronaut" research at the June 2006 meeting of Oregon MUFON recently. Check out his website. Afterward, a lively discussion ensued. Oregon MUFON does not endorse all of Mike's evidence and conclusions, but feel that his work in gathering all this information in one place is valuable. We at Oregon MUFON do not recommend the works of Erick Von Daniken or David Icke. We feel their evidence and reasoning are quite weak. "Ancient astronaut" theory is provocative, but very prone to facile conclusions. Oregon MUFON recommends the works of Zecharia Sitchin, Graham Hancock, and William Bramley if you would like to explore "ancient astronaut" ideas. (Mike Schultz also recommends these authors.) Caution is advised, however, with even these authors. Don't expect everything they say to be perfectly factual. This is a highly speculative area of ufology. Mainstream historians and archeologists certainly do not agree with very much in the "ancient astronaut" area. Take it easy here!
- MUFON member Dixie Caris and Assistant State Director Keith Rowell traveled to Dr. Bobbi Mihara's Portland State University paranormal psychology class on February 8, 2006, to deliver talks about UFOs. Dixie talked about her sightings and shared some automatic writing messages from ETs. Keith gave a Keynote presentation on "UFOs: What's the Truth?" in which he said that understanding the world of paranormal phenomena and the world of the national security state are the two keys to really understanding UFOs.
- The Trails End Paranormal Society of Oregon is sponsoring a three day Rose City Paranormal Conference in Portland, Oregon, on October 14, 15, and 16, 2005. Eric Byler of Oregon UFO Research will speak about UFOs. Other presenters will talk about ghosts and other paranormal activity in and around the Pacific Northwest. Please note that the event and most speakers are free to the public. We hope to see you there.
- Tom Bowden, Oregon MUFON State Director, took a trip to the recent 2005 International MUFON Symposium. Take a look at his report.
