Oregon MUFON is the local state chapter of Mutual UFO Network, Inc. MUFON seeks to investigate the UFO phenomenon in a scientific manner as funds and expertise allow. To this end, MUFON strives to establish a presence in every state of the United States and even in every country of the world since the UFO phenomenon knows no boundaries and is an "equal opportunity" phenomenon.

Almost every state of the U.S. has a State Director, Assistant State Director, Chief Investigator, State Section Directors, and Field Investigators. When a UFO is reported to MUFON via its web site or other method, the appropriate State Director and Assistant State Director are notified. They assign the UFO event "case" to a State Section Director or Field Investigator if the person who reports the event is interested in any follow up.

Your Oregon State Director is Tom Bowden. He has over 35 years of UFO research and investigative experience. He became interested in UFOs and parapsychology (especially J. B. Rhine's work) as a youth and joined the Aerial Phenomena Research Organization (a very active UFO investigation group from the 1950s to the 1980s) as a young adult after college. The intriguing Travis Walton abduction case of 1975 convinced him he wanted to be an investigator. Tom's early work with APRO led him to investigate some early abduction cases. After concentrating on work and family for a number of years and putting UFO investigation on the back burner, Tom has now renewed his interest and is more active than ever. He joined MUFON in 2001 and became Assistant and then State Director for Oregon in 2003.

Your Assistant State Director is Keith Rowell. He has over 30 years of UFO research and investigative experience as an independent researcher and with MUFON. He has investigated abduction cases, cattle mutilation cases, crop circle cases, and even a plain, old UFO sighting or two. He has seen UFOs on more than one occasion, and in two separate events managed to photograph two UFOs in one event and to videotape a red, white, and blue UFO in the other. Keith helped to run the Northwest UFO Group, a public educational forum, during the 1990s. Keith was made Assistant State Director in 2004 in addition to serving MUFON as a Field Investigator, State Section Director, and Research Specialist in Librarianship.
