UFO information about specific events breaks down into stories and cases. What's the difference?

• A story is an uninvestigated narrative about a specific UFO event.
• A case is an investigated narrative about a specific UFO event. The investigation has been done by a credentialed UFO investigator. Usually, after the investigation, a formal report is produced.

Oregon MUFON Field Investigators are trained and tested before they are allowed to conduct an investigation of a UFO story. The training mostly consists of accompanying a certified Field Investigator on a number of investigations to see what the normal procedures for investigation are. The testing is administered by MUFON. Every Field Investigator must pass a 100 question test (MUFON Field Investigator's Exam) with a grade of 80 or more before he or she receives a card identifying them as a Field Investigator. To help a Field Investigator Trainee pass the test, MUFON publishes a Field Investigator's manual.
